Retro Tuesday?
Originally I was going to join Gary for Retro Tuesday with old pictures I've been digging up.
The Retro Tuesday I am experiencing today is a snap back to 9.11. Not the kind of retro I would wish on anyone.
Patriots Day is not a holiday here in RI, but it sort of is. Many people run the Boston Marathon, many more go for the celebration. Early battles (Shot Heard Round The World) are reenacted; bombs are not part of it.
I am trying to understand the why of this and trying harder to get past the urge to destroy the perpetrators. Killing people is wrong (or RONG) no matter the circumstances, but it's hard to get past that initial urge to destroy.
No, I am not posting any pictures; there are plenty of images elsewhere. One of my great regrets is that I turned on my tv in time to see the plane heading down the river and hitting the second Tower dead on. No one needs that permanently in her brain.
We will survive and go on.

ReplyDeleteI have turned off the news and am firmly focusing on the positive and sending that message out. My husband was in Boston yesterday but no where near what happened and he is sitting at my breakfast counter today.....which is a good thing. Give a hug to someone you love. xox
ReplyDeleteI agree, being knowledgeable about horrible things happening kind of makes us all experience it in real-time. Me too on 9.11 seeing the second plane and many things that are no longer shown because of the horrors. Yesterday I just turned on tv in afternoon (which I never do) and didn't have a clue why every station had the same thing happening...for a minute anyway. I can understand so many people's reactions and the difficulty our leaders have also in dealing with these un-explainable and irrational threats.

ReplyDeleteMost likely many people are thinking about 9/11 and the Atlanta bombings and the Oklahoma City bombing and remembering. Ahmen to Michèle's thoughts.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts go out to Boston and U.S.A.. We had 7/7 in London. Londoners are really tough. But they became even stronger and braver after that. I'm sure that Boston will be same.
ReplyDelete9/11 hijacked my wedding anniversary which is in November but I am Australian and we note the day then the month when we talk dates. I too saw the plane in real time watching the news. I did not even turn on the telly yesterday cause I did not want to wittness any of it. The current concept of media has turned many into ghouls. I am concerned what that feeds and refuse to be a part of it. Today the sun is shining, the birds are singing and I hope to preoduce something beautiful.

Your region is for sure far better suited for them than ours. We got one from Caroll Gardens in Maryland, before they went out of business but we never had any luck for flowers... Maybe one or two and that's it.
