Time Warp Tuesday?

Given the age of the photograph this seems appropriate for Time Warp Tuesday.  I'm not sure about linking; perhaps I'll do that next week.

I found this picture of the Dragon Tail birthday cake I made for Proge on (I think) his sixth or possibly seventh birthday.  That would make it ca. 1977-'78.  I know we had read J.R.R. Tolkien's wonderful story Farmer Giles of Ham, so of course a dragon tail was in order for the day.  Proge added the knights who in the story all got rather singed by Chrysophylax Dives.

If you haven't read the story, you should.  It's Tolkien more in the vein of  The Hobbit rather than the serious mythology of Lord of the Rings and most charming.

  1. Dearest Suzi,
Funny how we come across those 'older' photos and realize how the digital era has changed things. But it sure makes for fond memories! I'm still not done scanning 70s, 80s slides so we make everything digital. Our daughter LOVED some vacation pictures from the 70s that I gave her.
I've not read the story... Hugs to you both,
    Mariette

  2. How cool! A couple of weeks ago I came across some photos of Danielle's b-day cakes from the early 80's... some made by me (rather ugly) and some professional ones that were very cute. It's always fun to look back at the days when our kids were so young.

  3. I love time warp Tuesday! Had to go through mountains of old photographs two weeks ago, something I thought would take me a few minutes..... Hours and hours later I wasn't done! Too much fun and memories......

I read, "A Wrinkle in Time" so many times with my kids..... Magical days indeed :)

  4. Hi Mariette....I've been trying to sort old photos off and on for the last year. My scanner takes forever; often I just take picture of the picture and get it into my computer that way.

Hi Michele...Those old photos bring back so many happy memories.

Hi Sandy....There are some wonderful kids literature out there. A Wrinkle in Time was a great favorite, also The Dark is Rising and the Chronicles of Prydain.

  6. I read the story when I was child! I like Pauline Baynes, the illustrator. I am confused, but was this cake huge? It looks like it is in the woods!

  7. Hi Elna.....Thanks.

Hi Midori....The illustrations are part of the delight of the story. The cake was good sized, about fifteen inches long. Our house was in the woods and I had an outdoor kitchen every summer
