REDUX: Wet, or......

MY THAT WAS FUN!

I got up this morning only to discover that the pump had flooded.....we have a dug well with a surface pump.  If this happens it's usually in the early spring when heavy rains come through.  We have been going through another rainy spell; everything is in a state of sog.  Dealing with the flooded pump is not that difficult.  It just takes throwing the sump pump in the well and draining water below the well pump.  Then it's just a matter of resetting the circuit breaker and the over ride switch.  Doing it a 6:00AM  with no tea is the hard part....that and finding the stupid extension cord and doing it in the rain.  Ah well....it's a good time to catch up on the laundry!

We've had so much rain that flood warnings are in effect throughout most of the state.  It's not a problem for us as we live on top of a hill.

As is apparent from the picture below I've been working on the flower tower.  I may add a bit more but I try to remember to keep decorations on planter fairly simple. Live plants will finish the design.  It's fun to be working with big brushes for a change.

I took the fish picture from the deck with my telephoto lens.Sunday was our sunny day so of course I had to take the camera out.

Can you see our little tree frog on the stone?  He also was out on Sunday, basking.  It's hard to believe that something that small (about 2") can make so much noise.  We think of them as a sign that summer is truly here.

I'm spending most of the day making more bird whistles.  I'm trying to use up some of the white clay that was given to me.  It's fine for non-functional work, and once fires quite nicely, but it sucks dead monkey meat for cups, bowls, etc.  It gets so hot in the microwave that a pot holder is needed to handle it, whereas I can hold a microwaved terra cotta mug and it's just warm......says the woman with asbestos hands. At the pottery co-op I was always the one to see if the pots were cool enough to take out of the kiln because I could handle hotter pots than everyone else.  I'm not sure that was a good thing!

I am hoping that it will be dry enough tomorrow for us to go to a new pond place (our favorite local guy closed),  I dislike driving I 95 when the roads are wet because so much junk gets thrown up that visibility becomes a real problem.  We'll see, grasshopper.....we'll see.

Enjoy your day and stay dry.

As always thanks for stopping by..............*s*

  1. hey, what do you have against dead monkey meat.....
You really got me on that one!
I feel your pain on water, wet and things that go wrong in the night.
I too wonder how those wee frogs can be so LOUD!
    back to the clay- cheers.

    1. Hi Meredith....I'm just glad we live on top of the hill!
Bird whistles and now some toad halls for our resident toads!

  2. I think we are all tired of the rain. It's taking forever to finish pots. Glad to hear that the well pump was an easy fix, even without the tea!

    1. And supposedly there is more rain coming on Thursday! We are still having to drain, even after several loads of laundry.
Everything is so green and lush it feels like a temperate rain forest.

  3. I hear you about interstate mess. Glad when I went into Asheville this morning the sun had reappeared. Whew. The thing we get here is often an accident which blocks all traffic for miles. Almost makes me use the back routes...unless I'm in a time crunch, which shouldn't happen since I could avoid that! But I avoid too much in my life...time to enjoy something!

    1. The interstates are great, except when they're not. My main complaint is fine rain, wet roads and semis throwing up all sorts of stuff that makes visibility very short indeed. Like you I've learned my way around accidents etc. via alternate routes. The trouble with alternate routes in this state is that most of the roads are abysmal, to put it mildly.
We all want to avoid time crunches; I guess we always have too many ball in the air.

  4. I do admire that flower tower! Please show them again when the flowers are peering out! It must look even more spectacular! It has been wet over here too! It was the first week since January during which the weather was a bit better and warmer. I still wore my winter coat at the end of May! Go on with your artwork - it is fantastic! Christa

    1. Hi Christa....I just have to dry it completely and put a glaze on it. Then into the kiln it goes. I'm hoping to fire next week or so.
We had our wood stove going in april!

  8. Good morning Suzy! Oh how I love Rhode Island, having visited there while living in Boston for 11 years. As I type, it is raining AGAIN for the 20th time it seems!

Thank you so much for coming to visit and to leave a comment. Enjoy your week and weekend, and yes, we could all benefit from a little dryer weather! Anita

  9. The flower tower looks great. I really like it.
I would not have seen the frog on the rock if you'd not pointed it out. Great camouflage.

  12. He's cute!
I just saw a tiny tiny turtle the size to fit in a five year old's hand, and he was sitting in the middle of the walk path. Totally camoflaged. Adorable! Hope the rain stops!

    1. Hi Mary....We rarely see turtles around here, but so sweet to see a baby. We did have a baby snapper get into our pond last year. We sent him to live in a nearby river.

  13. I am living in the land of tree frogs. I have one living in my flower arrangement on the front door which would be fine except that you never realize how much small frogs poop until one is pooping on your front step. Yesterday we went out to put up a flag and there was a tiny tree frog nestled down in the flag holder. I couldn't bear to dislodge him so we are not exactly celebrating flag day until he moves on.

    1. Hi Claudia.....Tree frogs are funny little critters. I've had them drown in the swimming pool; I think due to chemicals and inability to get out.
I've stopped putting a flag out by the road since local wits think have decided it's the greatest joke to steal them. Mailboxes are fair game too.
Proge built the fish pond as a combo birthday; Christmas present. He enjoys messing around with it and the fish.

  15. That pot is looking good, hope to see it fired. Our tree frogs here in Oz are green and a little bigger than yours. We have tiny grass frogs behind our house and they make a big noise for a little frog - especially when there is a chorus of them!

  16. Hi Anna.....Thanks, I am going to use a clear slightly tinted glaze and once fire it, which I can do with this clay body if I use a commercial glaze. We also have tine green frogs that swell up so much when they 'sing' it looks like they are about to burst! No casualties yet, as far as I know.
