What....

.....in the name of heaven are these?  .......A question I was asked once upon a time.  My answer:  Tiny little warheads for tiny ICBM's.......because I was feeling really snarky that day.

REALLY!  They are blanks for many animal whistles.  Pigs, penguins, mice, fish,,,,I may come up with more as I work on them.

The powers that be have decided to extend the days of our Christmas Sale at the South County Art Association.  I'll go along with it, but I am not sure that it will make us much more money.  We'll see, grasshopper...........we'll see.

Speaking of grasshoppers, Robin Hopper's book,  Making Marks, is on sale over at Ceramic Arts Daily Bookstore.  I can't get the link to work, but it's worth taking a look.  This is one of the books I find an invaluable resource for decoration.

This year I have decided to make my inventory broad and shallow and we'll see how that works.

Sunny and warm today, so I am going out to hang laundry.

This post will also be over on Mud Colony.  Take a look at the world of clay.

Enjoy the week end, and, as always, thanks for stopping by..............*s*

    1. Hi Mariette....I think it's supposed to be wonderful through the week end. This weather is strange; last week we lit the wood stove!
Slow but steady recovery is good.
      Enjoy the week end.

  6. I know someone that makes mouse parmesan cheese shakers with this sort of shape. The cheese comes out of the gaps between the mouse's teeth and the point is the nose. A coil is the tail that wraps around the side. A hole with a stopper in the bottom is where the cheese goes in. They're really adorable

    1. Hi Schnee.....It just goes to show what can be done with such a basic form. I love the idea of cheese shakers!
Thanks for finding me and stopping by!

  7. I always wondered how to make clay whistles, seems hard to get them to blow right... What does that mean, to make inventory broad and shallow?

  8. Hi Cathy.....once you get the knack whistle making isn't hard. Although I always have a few throwaways when I haven't done them for a while.
Broad and shallow means making a lot of different stuff but not a lot of each. Then when you see what sells you can make more of particular items. For something like a four week sale restocking is an easy option.

  10. Hats for gnomes??? or recycleable ICBMs made from unfired clay! A great concept that, clay missiles..., imagine being able to plant flowers and vegetables in the muddy patch where ever such things landed! :)

I must have a look at Robin Hopper's book. I came across a great video of him somewhere on the net one day, and he was so interesting.

I must think "broad and shallow", "broad and shallow". I should probably write it in big letters on the wall near my wheel. I have a tendency to just sit down at the wheel with good intentions of matching bowls, mugs, and so on..., and then get fascinated by something vase shaped and somewhat impractical that gets me a long way from stocking my shelves, or making things for shows. Mind you, "broad and shallow" does conjour up wonderful images of bowls of great size....!

    1. Hi Peter....Gardens in missile paths YES!
Robin has a great blog, which he is ending; it's worth reading from the beginning. Hit PHOENIX on my sidebar.
Make those broad and shallow bowls.....in all your free time!

  11. Whistles, of course! But, I thought they might be the bottom halves of hanging bird houses or feeders...You can tell I am not a potter.

Thanks for your visits, Suzi. I wish you the best with broad and shallow and holiday sales!

    1. Hi Elizabeth....One of the serendipitous by products of this post has been the ideas that have been put out into the world.
