Looking?

I haven't been able to get into my studio much in the last few weeks.  However, I have been  spending time looking at various mugs.  Below are four mugs that I use all the time.  By the choice of the hand critic these appear to be functional favorites.  The criteria seems to be the way they feel in my hand and the way the rim feels when I drink.  A handle has to be large enough to hold, but it also has to work when I cradle a mug in the palm of my hand and loop my thumb through the handle.

I love the looks of the mug below, but I have never enjoyed drinking from it.  I find the base of the handle feels weak and the lip feels fat.  I don't regret buying it, but I don't think I have ever regretted buying a mug.  It's funny how small differences can make such a huge difference!

I made a spinach and shrimp quiche a few days ago.  I made it from leftovers from a few days before, just added a bit more cheese, milk and eggs.  It disappeared quickly!

I have been trying to take selfies!  I'm not sure about this; I need longer arms!  I need to consult my manual but I think I can do a delayed action on this camera.  Now that I've had it for several years I should begin to explore what it can do!

SURPRISE!!  It's snowing again.  It's supposed to turn to rain later on then back to snow which will make for some interesting driving during rush hour.  I am soooooo glad that I don't have to drive to get to my work!

There is one good thing about all this snow.  The ground will be absorbing a lot of water which hopefully will lessen the chances of drought this summer.  I'll grasp any straw to feel a bit positive this winter!

This is late, but since Kim says it's okay I'm going to link this Sunday Ceramics.  Go over and take a look.

Stay warm and dry or cool and dry....whichever is best.

As always, thanks for stopping by......*s*

  1. Suzi...great selfie! I'm experimenting with them too. Me too, I've got mugs galore, and favorites to drink out of as well as those to just look at and smile. Thanks for telling us about yours!

  2. Jeff is glad he made the cut of favorite mugs! I have a mug that I love the look of but it has a very narrow opening and is impossible to drink out of.

    1. Hi Michele,
Jeff made it because it was the one I used yesterday. In reality I use your's and Jeff's mugs a lot...all are great!

  3. Dearest Suzi,
You are so right about a certain rim on a mug and I too love to cradle a mug with my hands, thumb looping through the ear.
What a young and happy face you still have 'Smartcat!' Hope I will look like that in ten years.
Hugs to you and stay positive and warm!

    1. Hi Mariette,
You are one of the few who holds a mug like I do!
      Thanks for the lovely compliment!

  4. We should have Monday mug day! I'm getting a pretty good collection, some get used everyday, some just on Sundays, some have never seen tea or coffee, but each is a study in something I love. All those loves have some how transferred to my work. I still like a good old heavy basic mug! But then there is the paper thin porcelain mug I LOVE and always burn my fingers on but insist on using because I love it!
Nice selfie!! I haven't gone there yet...... :)

    1. Hi Sandy,
It's odd how mugs seem to divide themselves into categories.
I like the idea of Monday Mug Day!

  5. Love your selfie -- now I feel like I could pick you out in a crowd -)
Mugs -- such an intimate personal item. I have mugs from lots of potters (only thing I could afford at workshops) - I have them all exposed on a shelf & have guests choose. It's interesting to me what folks pick.
I'm hoping for no drought and a cool summer!

  6. Hi Judy,
I too, began collecting mugs because they are what I can afford. I have since come to see that a mug , because it is so ubiquitous, is a true reflection of its maker.

  7. It is funny how that hand test works isnt it. I have some bowls here I made as a student. I loathe the glaze on them but I love how they feel. Thanks for joining in with Sunday ceramics AND that is a GREAT selfie

    1. Hi Kim....Tony Clennell has a term for this kind of selection. I'll have to do a little research to dig it out.

  8. Mugs are so personal. I've had a customer look at a certain mug and declare it too big then another person tell me the exact same mug is too small, followed by my Goldielocks saying it's just right.

    1. Hi Linda....I hope you find a camera that you like. It took me ages to find mine; horrors if it should break! Take a look at Michele's FB page. She has daffodils! (We still have snow)
