Teapot Tuesday #3

This is a teapot I made about twelve years ago.  It has had a doomed history.  I hated the first lid I made for it as it had nothing to do with the rest of the pot.  That lid broke so I made a few more.  What I did not realize at the time was that I was using a different clay body a friend had given me.  It was low fire but not the warm terra cotta I like for majolica.  The first one of that series was just right; unfortunately the cats I had at the time knocked it off a shelf and broke the lid.  This is a second choice. It fits fine but is a little too big for the teapot.  If you look closely you should be able to see the cracks where I glued it after another disaster.

I glazed it with Linda Arbuckle's majolica at (I think) ^04.  The designs are done with mason stains.  I mixed the strawberry color; the green is Florentine, a great favorite of mine.

Now that I have a safer place to store work in progress I may try a few more.....someday!

It was about 39 F. and cloudy when I got up this morning.  We have actually started up the woodstove again.  This is almost May for pity's sake.  Give me a break.  I'm just glad we are having longer days and that I don't live any further north!

Stay warm or cool as the case may be.

As always, thanks for stopping by............*s*

    1. Hi Linda....Thanks. They aren't hard to do once you know how. I learned from Harry Spring.

  2. I am enjoying the Tuesday Teapots very much, and the story that goes with them. Each pot certainly does have a history, some go together easily, and others just seem difficult at every step! I like the handles, and the strawberry shape of the teapot body, and how you have echoed the shape of the handles in the stem of the strawberry plant in the decoration.

Hope your weather warms up soon!

    1. Hi Peter....Thanks. You are so right about some pots being difficult. I think it has something to do with my attitude or something. I'm so pleased you see the connection between the handles and the vines. I should do more of them!

  3. Dearest Suzi,
Oh my, that is COLD! Let's hope this will soon pass as it is about time we see some stable weather.
Love the design of the handle and lid; very special. What a fate, thanks to those playful and at times naughty felines that rule the house.
    Hugs to you,
    Mariette

    1. Hi Mariette...It's supposed to be in the sixties and seventies this week end, with sun! (We all remember sun. It's that bright yellow thing in the sky!)
There is nothing like a gang of cats to keep a potter in her place!

    1. Hi Sandy....Thanks. I usually make a bunch at a time. I too, have a thing for teapots. I'm still trying to figure out a way to display them.
Cold and rainy here through tomorrow. We're on top of a hill so we don't worry about flooding, but We are getting enough rain so it will be a problem in some areas.
I just want to have nights that are warm enough for my tropicals to go out!

  8. What flamboyant handles! Not only cats cause accidents, but also husbands do! Once Mike broke three sculptures at the same time! :D

    1. Hi Midori....Thanks. Oh yes, I do know about husbands and others causing disasters. Wagging dog tails were a learning experience!

The rain is supposed to get heavy with a flood watch tonight! Stay safe!

  10. Dear Suzi,

Oh what a lovely teapot and yes, you would want to have it a little higher up out of reach of your kitties.
Hope that the weather warms up there soon - I noticed I have a pink hyacinth coming up in a pot - they should not be coming up until Spring/September. The seasons seem to be a little all over the place.
    Happy weekend
    hugs
    Carolyn

    1. Hi Carolyn.....Thanks. Our kitties certainly make us rethink our notions of safe spaces!
We are finally enjoying sunny, warmer days. Things are slowly starting to bloom.
Hyacinths for you is as strange as my having Christmas cacti bloom in July, mid-summer here!
      Enjoy the week-end.
