Memories

I was going through more old photos yesterday and found this one.  I can remember my big brother, Bob taking these. I think it was our last spring in Dearborn, Michigan.  That summer we moved permanently to Rhode Island.

My younger brother Jonathan and I are in outfits that our Mother made for us.  She used to make most of my clothes because she did not like the quality of what she found in stores.

 Easter ca.1950
Enjoy day what ever holiday you do or don't celebrate.  But I think we could all make a toast to the coming sunny days.

As always, thanks for stopping by.............*s*

  1. Love these old photos. I do remember detesting the lace ankle socks I had to wear on Easter. They itched. Cute. xox

    1. I forget that sewing isn't popular anymore. I started using a machine when I was twelve. I used to design a lot of stuff too.

  3. sweet photo, your mother was quite the seamstress; I used to sew quite a bit of my own clothes but sadly these days I can buy cheap clothing cheaper than I can purchase the material and then there is the clay that takes precedence. Ha.

    1. Hi Linda....Sewing ran in the family. My Nanu, my mother's mother had a treadle machine. My sister majored in design and even made her daughter's very elaborate wedding dress. Like you, I find that it's just not worth it to sew my own clothes anymore. The only exception is if I want a really high end something or other; then I make it!

  4. What a sweet photo. I remember those Easter mornings having to get up, put on a dress and tight white shoes, (white shoes after Easter, black after Labor Day)
and get ready for the Easter photo of me looking miserable. I was looking through old photos yesterday too. All of the ones I have of my daughter at Easter are of her in her pajamas with an Easter basket :)

    1. Hi Tracey....Oh yes, the black and white rules! The torture was not in getting dressed up but in having to endure endless family dinners with my father's mother, the original b*#ch on wheels starting a fight with at least one family member. I think my parents thought family dinners were important because they were both only children.

  5. Dearest Suzi,
What a precious photo of you, your baby-brother and your dear Mother. She was quite an artist for being able to create such lovely outfits! Especially with the material available back than, sewing machines were not even the same as we have now.
You look so cute and happy in the picture.
Who would not celebrate the beginning of spring?!
    Hugs to you and blessings.

  6. Hi Mariette....We took it all for granted as children, but it was hard to find all sorts of stuff. It wasn't a difficult as in Europe, but cars were black, busses were green and it all mailboxes, mail trucks were painted with surplus olive drab paint. Times change for sure!
We have actually had birds singing at dawn.

    1. Hi Mariette...The sun is out; it's supposed to reach sixty or more and the crocuses are blooming! What more could I wish for?
