Old Friends

I was looking through some old notebooks and found Humpty Dumpty, a design I haven't used in several years.
It's on terra cotta, glazed with thee coats of Spectrum #799 Majolica White.  The colors are my own mixed Mason Stains.
This is first step, with all the main design elements painted in.  Next I will put in some background details and wax resist all the painted work.  Then I will work on the background, waxing where needed.  Waxing makes it so much easier as I don't have to worry about background bleeding into the figures.  Any colors that get onto waxed areas I can get off with one of the little eye shadow sponge applicators I keep on hand.  It will be fired at a hot ^05.
Eventually I will fill the kiln so I can fire.  As soon as my studio warms up a bit I will make a bunch of greenware to go in on separate shelves.  It's one of the advantages to working in low-fire.

As always, thanks for stopping by.........*s*

  1. Are you doing this glaze work on greenware or bisque ware? I love the design, and how you have such fine details...is it with brushes or little applicators?

  2. Hi Barb....I am doing this on bisque terra cotta (^05-^04) on raw glaze. I use brushes for all my work. The black lines are done with a very fine, 000, liner brush. I like natural bristles, but that is a matter of preference. If you have a chance you should do a majolica workshop. With your style (think monarchs) you might really enjoy it.

  3. Dearest Suzi,
Yeah, we're all waiting for real spring to start our most favorite lifestyle!
Like firing and cracking pieces, I've learned how a hairline crack in the cranium and pubic bone feel like... Fell on my left hip due to severe cramping and this is what I got. Severe bruising a huge hematoma but in 2 weeks it's almost gone. X-rays showed no broken bone... but still I couldn't stand on that leg, other than leaning heavily on my crutch on the other side. So yesterday's MRIs showed something wrong and today's CT scan underscored it. Tomorrow morning driving one hour to a good orthopedic surgeon. Not the same one locally that ruined my left hand in 2014...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Yep, now I know that for 2 more months I have to use the crutch and be very careful so it slowly can heal by itself. No participation in the Revue with my choir at the Theatre as it is singing and dancing. My orthopedic said a firm NO to that... By mid June I should be fine and without pain, if not I have to see him again. No biking either, risk for falling is too big there.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  4. Hi Mariette.....I am so very glad that you have gotten a godd diagnosis and a good orthopedic surgeon. It’s so frustrating when you know something is wrong and docs can’t/won’t find a diagnosis. Now you can start the healing process and look forward to warm weather.
