Alien Invasion

This was going to be a posting about the pots I have been making, the flowers that are blooming and all the delights of late summer.

THEN!!!  About an hour ago we were out in the yard for our morning walk around when Proge yells, "Holy sh*t there's huge hornets' nest up there."  I looked and indeed it is a huge nest.  On second thought it's probably paper wasps!  We always get them around the pool trying to build nests under the rails; we never have considered the fish pond as a source, but of course it is.  This is right over the fishies so there is no way we are going to spray or use anything else to get rid of it.  They aren't bothering us so we will wait until cold weather to deal with it!  It would be another story if they were white face hornets, which are extremely territorial and will chase you down!

We'll see, grasshopper.......we'll see..........

On a happier note this little frog has been by the pond for most of the summer!  He likes to sit on the rock in the morning and relax in the pond the rest of the time.  We've had quite a few frogs this year.  Some summers we only have one or two.  We also have about a dozen baby fish!

I'll post about pots and plants next time.

Meanwhile have an enjoyable Labor Day Week End!

As always, thanks for stopping by..............*s*

  3. I love frogs, but DANG those wasps scare me--we have a nest like it right over the neighbor's driveway and I am always walking under it, having forgotten....

    1. Hi Gary.... Given my druthers I would rather not have a wasps nest. At least it's out of the way. Last summer we had them trying to build under the eves of the garden shed....that went quickly!

  4. Dearest Suzi,
What a surprise it is all the time when owning a home + property! Hope they are not the mean variety. We got a big nest right under the gable, on the drive way side of the home. Too high for Pieter to do anything so one say we must ask somebody to tackle that.
Got way behind, our 4.5 year old HP PC died... We got a new Mac just before we left for our 4-night trip to NYC. This week I had to drive back to the Apple Store in Atlanta = 2.5 hrs driving one way, for getting help with transferring my files from an external harddrive. So glad that all could be saved from the old PC! Still need to transfer lots of things myself, so it takes a while till everything is 'living' on it again. With time I will learn it all...
Love your cute frog and what a great photo. So happy to read you had good offspring this year.
    Sending you hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Hi Mariette....Owning your own home is always an adventure. At least we stay on our toes.
'They' say things happen in threes. So far the well pump has gone; we've restored the swimming pool; I'm counting the wasp nest as the third and keeping my toes crossed for a few weeks of peace. HAH!
I've been using Apple for to many years to count. That does NOT make me any kind of expert. I just find them easier to use. I find that learning when I need something is my best way of keeping it in my brain! I'm still learning new stuff about my IPad (Proge's birthday present to me)
I think I need to make more frogs!
