I am currently testing different terra cotta bodies. In this state they all look alike; it will be interesting to see what happens in the glazing and firing process.
Sheffield terra cotta on right; Miller #20 on left.
As always, thanks for stopping by........*s*
I am surprised at how light the terra cotta is in it's dry state. Those are some nice mugs. I am testing clays from Stone Mountain a small supplier near Atlanta, you remind me that I need to make a few mugs since they sell well.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda....Terra cotta gets a chalky look, then gets a lovely dark color when it is fired.
DeleteYou are fortunate to have a nearby supplier!
Yes, please show pics after each firing. I’d love to see the differences. Do they feel different when you are working with them?
ReplyDeleteNice forms.
Hi Lori......I'll try to post after firing if my brain doesn't go on vacation.
DeleteThe two bodies are different. I'll try to think how when I'm working with them.
I know the #20 body well. It is a surprisingly dense earthenware, and will survive up to about ^3. If you take it that high is turns almost maroon, and has a shine even without glaze.
ReplyDeleteHi Lori...Thanks for the information. I think it's a lot like the #25 I used to use minus the Frit. I didn't know it would go as high as ^3. I see experimentation ahead!
DeleteDearest Suzi,
ReplyDeleteGuess you never will tire from experimenting further how things will work out different and hopefully better.
Sending you sunny greetings and I'm finally catching up now our choir's Revue has passed on the 6th. Feels good to be 3 months off!
Hugs,
Mariette
Hi Mariette....One of the wonderful things about clay is that there is always something new to explore.
DeleteBe sure to post photos when finished. I am curious as to what designs you will paint on these.
ReplyDeleteI miss using sheffield clay :-(
I used t-3 stoneware and 20231 white stoneware, when I was in NH.
Hi Michele...Thanks for the reminder. I am really bad at posting results.
DeleteI've been enjoying experimenting with both clay bodies.
