rare?! wow! totally pretty color--btw, if I made more elephant watering cans they would probably cost 100 bucks and a pretty hefty shipping bill too...but I do have smaller ones :)
Hi Gary.....The color is beautiful; hopefully I'll be able to get better photos later in the summer. Lunas are among the largest moths; I seem to be going big this weel!
We use to get many of these on our Windows. Now, too many lights have pulled them away. Not for the better. Last time I saw any they were beating themselves up on big security lights out at the interstate welcome center.
Hi Mariette....This one is probably at the end of it's five to seven day adult life cycle. They are so focused as a species on reproduction that they don't even have mouths or any method of feeding. Beautiful but weird!
Dearest Suzi, Very interesting this Actias luna or Luna Moth! They are quite big too, till up to 4.5 inches. Thanks for sharing your photo with us and yes, it is unfortunate to use them for a sleeping pill logo... Sad! Hugs, Mariette
Pretty! And kind of spooky. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth...They come to the windows at night. The green is eerie against the night.
DeleteLuna moth! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHi Lori....Lunas were really rare up until about five years ago. This is the first we have seen this year. Summer is coming!

ReplyDeleteHi Meredith...How sad that they are attracted to the big lights. I wonder where they hide during the day.
DeleteI have yet to see one up close and personal. Lucky you.
ReplyDeleteHi Patti.....But I'm willing to bet that you have lots of other interesting critturs!
DeleteDearest Suzi,
ReplyDeleteLet's hope the loss of part of its wing will not hurt him/her!

Mariette

ReplyDeleteBeautiful but strange.

They're even stranger and more beautiful in reality. I find it unfortunate that they have been relegated to a sleeping pill logo.
