Advent and Santa

Do you ever save old Advent Calendars?  I do when they are as pretty as this one from The Metropolitan Museum of Art.  This is the Beaux Arts facade designed by Richard Hunt that faces Fifth Avenue.  There is always a huge tree in the lobby at Christmas time.

I made the Santa many years ago when my class of developmentally delayed students wanted to make Santa lamps.  These were fairly easy to make using a soda bottle as a form, and were a great hit!  The bulb in Santa's hat is too bright to photograph when lit.   Little bulbs can focus way too much light sometimes!

I can't seem to skip below the photo today.  Such are the vagaries of Blogspot!  I'll try moving the photo later.  We'll see, grasshopper.......we'll see.....

I spent the week end doing the long overdue chore of winterizing my studio.  It's not difficult, but does entail a lot of moving of stuff!

I understand that a large storm is headed our way.  We are supposed to get a lot of rain, which is still needed.  Pond levels are holding even since we started getting more rain but have not raised very much.

Good wishes for all to stay cozy and warm.  Is it may imagination or has it gotten cold much earlier this year?

As always, thanks for stopping by.........*s*

    1. Hi Carolyn....Thanks. I only save the ones I really like.
We're staying warm, inside, away from winter ice, snow, and rain.

  2. Dearest Suzi,
Hope you will be fine with the storm coming your way. We too will get some frost again, the wind is cold and we had no sunshine today. Just dressing warm and trying to stay cozy.
Sending you hugs and enjoy your Metropolitan Museum of Art's Advent Calender. Lovely and also that Santa; very unique way to create with those kids at that time.

    1. Hi Gary...Thanks! I always have to add my own little twists to things I make. After all why make a plain Santa when you can make a funky one?

  5. The only advent calendars I have ever had were tacky ones when my girl was little. Yours is beautiful, I would have saved it too.
Love the Santa and that he has a light bulb on his head.
You must be getting the weather that just left here... and yes it is colder earlier!

  7. Advent calendars..... Oh how I wish I had saved the old ones from Hungary! They were charming and Santa was a skinny bearded guy :). I remember the ones my Mom ordered from Miles Kimbal..... A little door opened and there was a small candy inside.... Joys. Have happy holidays and stay warm. We are getting the wind and cold but only an inch of snow...... Still too much :)

  8. Hi Sandy....When I was working at a really wonderful children's shop we spent hours looking for really pretty or quaint advent calendars. The European ones were usually the best!
