May At Last!

Now that is is the last weekend in May we are finally having May weather!  It's been a long slow spring.

This barred owl has been visiting us and hooting in the woods for the last few weeks.  I finally managed to get a shot of him when he was hanging out over the deck while Proge was barbecuing chicken.  If he was hoping for a handout he was disappointed.

Yes indeed this is Aloysius in the process of opening the screen door. I took this four years ago, but he still tries to get out.  This is why all our screen doors are locked!

One thing Aloysius likes to do is go to the farthest corner of the house and cry because he is lonely.  At some point in the last year we discovered that singing will bring him to us!

Yesterday he managed to leak out.  We started our usual frantic search when I decided to try singing.  So here I am at the edge of the woods singing Aloysius to Frere Jaques!  He came running to me with his, "Where were you?  You got lost!"  meows!  The Alleluia Chorus works well too.

Enjoy the long weekend.

There are hummingbirds at my window.  I had best go put out the petunias!

As always, thanks for stopping by...................*s*

  2. great to have the owl but not so good for cats, although they probably like smaller prey; I have always trained our cats to come when they are called. sometimes it 'tidbits' or 'crunchies' and for Barney it's a rattly meow with me trying to imitate something similar to his what a hoot.

    1. Hi Linda....I think he's more of a mouser, which I don't mind in the least! Our cats are all indoor 24/7.

  3. Having just posted about pottery owls myself it was fun seeing a photo of a real one! Wonderful!
Lovely to read about Aloysius. Cats are full of surprises. None have appreciated my attempts at music, but one did learn that my humming, or singing "Sound, sound, ye trumpets Sound" was her cue to go outside... Worked like a charm!

    1. Hi Gary.....It took me weeks to get him! I had to do a lot of messing around in editing to get it to look as good as it did.

  6. Hi Sandy....Not just any music, music with his name sung! The owl photo was initially quite dark; I fooled around with it quite a bit to get it that visible.
