Sometimes.....

You have to consider what may be best for you, rather than what you want to do.

To that end I decided to withdraw from the one holiday sale that I still do.  This bout of Lyme is taking its time in clearing up.  I still tire easily and can only work for short periods of time before I need to rest.

I could have put a few things in for the Thanksgiving week end and gotten a kiln fired to provide work for the rest of the sale, but when it felt completely overwhelming I decided that the best thing would be to withdraw for this year.

I am working a bit on things that please me.  Below is a small spoon rest.  The little dishes are really for me to use for practice.  I do sell the ones I really like, but most of them are for me to look at.

These are going into the kiln tomorrow when they are fully dry.  I use Mason colors which will look pretty much the way they do now/  The y will be a little stronger and shinier.  Sometimes I spray dry designs with hairspray to get more of an idea of what the fired colors will look like.

We had clouds and rain overnight with clear skies today.  It looked like the kind of sky that means cold temps.  Instead it has been in the fifties.  It's supposed to be good all week end.   No complaints here!  It's lovely to work outside without needed layers and layers of clothes to stay warm.

Enjoy the week end wherever you are.  My thoughts sympathies are with those who are experiencing flooding rains and other difficulties.

As always, thanks for stopping by.............*s*

  2. my comment from yesterday isn't here, strange, I like the little plates especially the first one (oh is the first one already fired?); I remembered today that some time ago I read a blog about someone with lyme disease and recalled the myriad of symptoms the person had; do a google search and you'll find several, thought there might be some good info for you in one of them.

    1. Hi Linda....Every once in a while someone makes a comment and it never posts. I have yet to figure out why!
I've had Lyne many times and have always caught it quickly. This time it snuck up on me! I'll do some google searches later today. Thanks.

  3. I started doing less and less shows, until I do nothing now. Can't say I miss that pressure one bit! Its so hard, even if you are in perfect health. Sell at your own pace, your work is beautiful, people will buy it when you want to sell...
hope you are feeling better soon!

    1. Hi Tracey....Thanks for the encouragement! It is much appreciated.
I do this one Holiday Show out of loyalty to my old co-op and the parent art association as it's a big fundraiser for them. I pretty much stopped doing local shows because I reached a between level. Too pricey for small ones, not enough stamina and work for larger ones.
      thinks are getting better!

    1. Hi Midori....Thanks. I work in little blocks of time with rests in between. It's a nasty disease and particularly difficult for those who get it and then return home to distant places. Many doctors are still unaware of it!

  5. Dearest Suzi,
A wise decision you made and at times yes, we have to abstain from such overwhelming commitments. We also ought to respect our age... we no longer are 25 where one could stretch him/herself for a brief period of time. It takes us a lot longer for falling again back into the groove.
We will have the first real frost on Monday night but since we already experienced 34 F the tender tropical plants are all in the greenhouse, with a heater on a timer when temperatures drop below a certain point.
It is back to that time of the year again.
Trying to get lots of things done, scanning old negatives and photos... It is overwhelming too; next to the 'regular' work whatever that means.
Enjoy your little projects and don't over do; rest up and regain your strength back!
    Hugs and happy weekend.

    1. Hi Mariette....Sometimes what is best in the long run is not so great in the present. You are so right about respecting our age and giving ourselves time to recover.
We are having rain and fog today; no frost predicted yet. That doesn't mean we won't get suddenly changing weather. I remember one year back in the nineties when we didn't have frost until after Thanksgiving then proceeded to have record breaking snowfall.
Our next thing to buy is a new scanner, copier. It's always something!
      Have a lovely Sunday.

  6. Dear Suzi,

Sorry to hear of your health problems and it is uch a good idea to pass on the holiday sale and your health is more important. Better to take it easy, rest and feel well again. There will be other shows to go to.
I love the spoon rests, the red poppy one is wonderful.
Take care and look after yourself
    hugs
    Carolyn

  8. Sorry to hear that your recovery is slow going. Best to allow yourself that time to recover.
The spoon rest is beautiful. Interesting that you can spray with hairspray to get an idea of the finished look. I didn't know you could that.

  9. Hi Michelle....It's slow but I am definitely seeing improvements. The headaches in particular seem to be gone.
Hairspray is one of my studio friends. While it's wet it gives an idea of the fired color. I also use it when I'm blending colors on the glaze. When dry it helps trevent color smearing.
