Flowers

The perennials have been blooming like mad this year.  I think all the rain and the relatively mild winter have had a great deal to do with it.

My poppys are the best they have been in years, helped by the fact that monsoons have not beaten them to a pulp as soon as they bloom.

Columbine and yellow flags are blooming by the pond.  It's a very pleasant place to sit and drink morning tea.  The two oak trees that shaded it are gone, but the swamp maples are big enough to do the job.

Clean up progresses slowly.  We'll  see, grasshopper......

Little Dishes and Columbine

I've been having fun painting these little dishes that are about 4 to 5 inches across.  Originally they were supposed to be kitty dishes, but they also work very nicely as small dessert bowls.  

I glazed them so long ago that I can't remember if the base glaze is Linda Arbuckle or Spectrum.  I should be able to tell after firing them.

Now that the columbine is blooming the hummingbirds are happy!  The three below are all plants that self seeded.  It's always interesting to see what will happen.

I just look for the seedlings when the are tiny and transplant them all to a planter where I can keep  an eye on them to be sure they don't bake in the sun and get enough water.  I usually try to get the plants into the ground in late summer, although they seem to survive quite well in the planter.

The one below is supposed to be very hardy.  It grows as far north as parts of Canada.  I bought this one a few days ago.  The last one did not make it through our very harsh winter of '14/'15, probably because it got flooded, then froze.  This one is going in a different spot!

It's a coolish, drizzly sort of day today.  It's supposed to be sunny and 80F tomorrow!
